Internet addict went out like a champ

BEIJING (Reuters) - An obese 26-year-old man in northeastern China died after a "marathon" online gaming session over the Lunar New Year holiday, state media said on Wednesday.

The 150-kg (330-lb) man from Jinzhou, in Liaoning province, collapsed on Saturday, the last day of the holiday, after spending "almost all" of the seven-day break playing online games, the China Daily said, citing his parents.

Xu Yan, a local teacher, said the "dull life" during the holiday prompted many people to turn to computer games for entertainment.

"There are only two options. TV or computer. What else can I do in the holiday as all markets, KTV and cafeterias are shut down?" the paper quoted Xu as saying.

China has seen an alarming rise in the number of teenage and young adult Internet addicts in recent years, despite attempts to restrict minors from cybercafes and limit online game playing times.

About 2.6 million -- or 13 percent -- of China's 20 million Internet users under 18 are classed as addicts, state media have reported.

Phil Spector Murder Trial To Be Televised

The murder trial of producer Phil Spector will light up ratings later this year for U.S. media outlets after a judge granted television access to the trial.

Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler approved the motion, filed last month, which will see TV cameras given access to broadcast live coverage - however he warned networks against turning the murder trial into a circus, adding he would have no hesitation in "pulling the plug" if it impacted on Jury.

Fidler explained his decision by adding the television coverage would come at a welcome time for the American public - some 12 years after the high profile acquittal of sports personality OJ Simpson, who was on trial for the murder of his wife.

Spector is currently free on $1m bail over the alleged shooting of b-movie actress Lana Clarkson in February 2003. The 'wall of sound' producer denies killing the 43-year-old, claiming she committed suicide in his Los Angeles mansion.

Former NBA star Dennis Johnson dead at age 52

Dennis Johnson was a favorite in Boston where he played on two NBA championship teams. He was respected in Texas as coach and mentor to players aspiring to reach the levels he did. Former teammates and opponents remembered him as someone who gave everything to the game he loved. Johnson died Thursday, collapsing after his developmental team's practice. He was 52.

"Dennis was just an awesome player," his former Celtics coach K.C. Jones said. "He played hard and he took the big shots."

Johnson, coach of the Austin Toros, was talking with a team staff member when he collapsed outside the Austin Convention Center. He was unconscious and in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived, said Warren Hassinger, spokesman for Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate him for 23 minutes before he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, Hassinger added. Mayra Freeman, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office, said there will be an autopsy.

The Toros postponed home games Friday and Saturday nights, the NBA Development League said.

A five-time All-Star and one of the NBA's top defensive guards, Johnson was part of the last Boston dynasty. He spent 14 seasons in the league and retired after the 1989-90 season. He played on title teams with the Celtics in 1984 and 1986 and with the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979, when he was the NBA finals MVP. (read the rest)

Kim Mather Blasts Ex-Hubby Rapper During Radio Interview

Eminem's ex-wife took some shots at the superstar rapper during a radio interview Friday, saying she has come to despise the man she twice married and divorced.

Kim Mathers described Eminem as unfaithful and uncaring and even went as far as to disparage the Grammy winner's sexual prowess.

"I vomit in my mouth whenever I'm around him," she said during the interview.

Mathers said she saw the interview as her chance to turn the tables on the entertainer, who has used his tormented relationship with his high school sweetheart as a source of his most popular and demented rhymes. He has killed her off in song and attacked her with his lyrics.

Mathers, the enraged bitter crack whore as I like to call her, said Friday she was "100 percent sure" they would never get back together.
